Anointing Oil from the Holy Land: What It Is and How to Use It
Anointing oil is one of the oldest signs of blessing in the Bible. Here is a short guide to what it is, how families use it today, and what each scent means.

Anointing in the Bible
In the Bible, oil is a sign of blessing, healing and being set apart for God. Kings and priests were anointed with oil, and in the New Testament the sick were anointed while people prayed for them (James 5:14).
Two scents you can find in the Gospels
- Nard (spikenard) — the precious perfume that a woman poured on Jesus in Bethany (Mark 14:3, John 12:3).
- Myrrh — one of the three gifts the Wise Men brought to the child Jesus (Matthew 2:11).
Our set also includes Rose, Jasmin and Amber — warm, gentle scents loved for prayer and as a gift.
How families use anointing oil today
- A small drop on the forehead or hands during personal prayer.
- Praying for a family member who is sick or going through a hard time.
- Blessing a new home, a new job, or a child before a journey.
- As a meaningful gift from the Holy Land for parents, godparents or a priest.
